- Impingement pain typically occurs when lifting your arm and can restrict your range of motion.
- Injury-Related Pain may result in chronic discomfort whenever your arm moves in a particular direction, or severe pain may immobilize your shoulder altogether.
Common Shoulder Conditions We Treat:
- Frozen Shoulder (Adhesive Capsulitis): Typically occurring after prolonged immobility or in certain populations (most commonly women aged 40-60), this condition causes a painful loss of motion in the shoulder due to tightening of the joint.
- Arthritis: Both osteoarthritis (wear-and-tear on the cartilage) and rheumatoid arthritis (inflammation due to an autoimmune response) can cause shoulder pain, muscle weakness, and reduced mobility.
- Impingement: This occurs when the humeral head does not move correctly during overhead activities, causing pain and limiting motion.
- Tendinitis: Overuse, poor posture, or repetitive overhead activity can lead to tendinitis, causing inflammation and pain when the arm is raised.
- Rotator Cuff Tear: The rotator cuff, consisting of muscles and tendons around the shoulder, can become torn or damaged due to overuse, injury, or age. This can cause significant pain, weakness, and difficulty moving the shoulder
Could It Be a Rotator Cuff Tear?
Rotator cuff injuries, often associated with sports or repetitive motions at work, can be debilitating. However, research has shown that physiotherapy can often be just as effective as surgery in treating these injuries.
